Our School Curriculum

For our students, studying in STEMS is a life-changing experience. Our world class facilities, diverse student population and range of co-curricular and service opportunities, develop independence, responsibility and encourage academic excellence. Students can do almost anything at STPS, where curriculum choices combine challenging and enriching experiences with academic rigour and creative opportunities. From KinderGarten to Year 10, STPS students experience a variety of learning options which develop their talents and challenge their minds.

STEMS measures the performance of each student throughout each course. Whilst social skills, behavior, attitudes and values are integral aspects of student development and growth; they are not recorded or taken into account when assessing a student’s academic performance. Assessment of student progress includes a range of activities, such as homework, weekly tests, assignments, essays, projects, presentations, journal writing, debating, research, fieldwork, experiments, and practical learning experiences.

Early Childhood

We believe that the early childhood years are key developmental years for young children. Our School takes an approach which recognises these learners as competent, powerful and full of potential. Our young students are valued for who they are and for the experiences they bring. They are encouraged to question and inquire and have the freedom to follow their own curiosity as they solve problems, research ideas and build understandings about the world around them. A key component of our programme is to develop the social competencies of our children through collaborative play and group activities. These natural situations allow children to learn and practise skills of sharing, communicating and problem-solving in social settings.

Elementary School Level

Children have an innate sense of wonder and a hunger to understand their world. Within the elementary section at STEMS we seek to foster the natural curiosity that the children bring to our doors. The Primary School offers a dynamic and supportive learning environment that is committed to the holistic development of all students. Through the delivery of challenging programs that seek to personalize learning, the school aims to provide an education that simultaneously promotes our students’ sense of independence, interdependence and responsibility. Teachers at the school seek to guide students towards the achievement of academic excellence; however, we also understand that a truly progressive education should explicitly focus on the emotional, social, personal and cognitive growth of children. We take a student-centered approach to learning that builds upon an individual’s understanding and skills, while encouraging further questioning, collaboration and inquiry.

Middle School Level

STEMS provides specially designed framework of academic challenge that encourages students to embrace and understand the connections between traditional subjects and the real world and to become critical and reflective thinkers. Throughout the Middle School, we provide learning in a broad base of disciplines to ensure that students acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to prepare for the future. We encourage the use of a variety of teaching and learning methodologies to foster a climate in which students discover how they learn best in different situations. In keeping with our approaches to teaching and learning, the School also makes use of quantitative and qualitative assessment strategies and tools that provide opportunities for peer and self-assessment. The recording and reporting of individual levels of achievement are organised in ways that provide students with detailed feedback on their progress as it relates to the assessment criteria for each Subject.
